Excellence is a virtue associated only with great achievers, the courageous and the goal setters. It carries with it some fragrance and purity and without mincing words, Alhaji Saliu Alabi, is a leader per excellence. He is an amiable man with sterling qualities which have over the years endeared him to many in his journey to success.

He was born on the 1st of march 1957 to the family of late Alhaji Ishaq Alabi in Adanbga area of Ilorin,kwara state. His educational background began at a primary school in minna, Niger state. He attended Ilorin Grammar school (I.G.S) from 1969 to 1973. He then proceeded to Government Secondary School (G.S.S) in Ilorin East Local Government for his Higher School Certificate (H.S.C ) between 1974 and 1975.

Alhaji Alabi secured admission into the University of Ibadan and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Geography in 1978.

An academic to the core, he holds a Master’s Degree in Industrial and Labour Relations (MILR) which he obtained in 1990. Not ready to rest on his oars, he decided to fuel his fire for more education by pursuing a second Master’s Degree in Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in 1996. Not done, he pursued yet another Master’s Degree in Peace and Development in 2011 and itching for more knowledge.Alhaji Alabi chose to pursue his doctorate degree in Peace and Development which is in view.

A dedicated and committed civil servant, he started his career as a Labour Officer II in 1982 and rose through the ranks till he became the Acting Director-General/ Chief Executive Officer in Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies in January, 2016, a post he held till he retired in March 2017.

In April, 2017, just a year and two months after his retirement, he returned to Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies as the substantive Director-General /Chief Executive Officer, appointed by His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari (GCON).

By virtue of his hard work and devotion, Alhaji Alabi is a fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants, an associate member, Chartered Institute of Personnel Institute of Nigeria (ACIPM) and also a member of the Nigeria Industrial Relations Association (MNIRA).

A widely travelled man, Alhaji S.I. Alabi has traversed virtually all states of Nigeria, attending seminars, workshops and conferences which has garnered him different certificates such as George Meany Centre-National Labour College; Certificate in Curriculum Development and Instructional Methods for Distance Learning; Nigeria Labour Laws: Challenges for Human Resource Practitioners, organised by Chartered Institute Personnel Management of Nigeria; the Centre For Management Development: Training of Trainers Workshop, amongst others.

He has equally attended several international Courses and Capacity Development Programmes such as, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Training Programme for Anglophone Africa in Strategy Development; Organisation and Management of Population Information Education Communication (IEC) in Nairobi, Kenya; International Institute for Solidarity and Development, Histadrut, Israel; International Labour Organisation Training Programme, Turin, Italy.

As a prolific researcher, he has extensively carried out various researches on academic issues and presented papers at professional Fora (seminars and workshops), some of which include: Industrial Relations Practice in a Medium Scale Manufacturing Organisation; Management of Conflict in Nigeria University System; Compensation, Administration and Worker’s Motivation; The Changing Forms of Modern Organisations: Implication for Human Resource Management; Industrial Relations System in Nigeria: Past, Present and Future; Dynamics of Conflict and Conflict Resolution for Enterprise development; Leadership Skills Development for Trade Union Officers, amongst others.

A diligent labour leader, he has served as a Nigerian delegate to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) conference held in Geneva and the seventh ordinary session of the African Labour Affairs and Social Commissions (LASC) in Addis Abba.

As a result of his remarkable contributions to the progress and growth of Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies, Alhaji Alabi successfully ensured the take-off of the National Diploma in Industrial and Labour Relations (NDILR) programme in 2013. He was also able to get the entry accreditation and the listing of the Diploma programme by the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

He is a devoted Muslim and is happily married and blessed with six promising children. His hobbies include: reading, table tennis and swimming.
