The management of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, has organised a security awareness briefing for staff as part of efforts to strengthen safety and security within the Institute.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General/Chief Executive of MINILS, Comrade Issa Aremu, recalled that he met a weak security system upon assumption of office and took deliberate steps to improve security across the institution.
He noted that the Institute had made significant progress in enhancing security infrastructure, including the installation of streetlights across about 80 per cent of the campus to improve visibility at night and deter any criminal activity within the campus.
The Director-General expressed concern over the prevailing security challenges in the country, assuring staff that their safety and that of the institute’s facilities remain a top priority for the management.
Earlier, the Director of Human Resource Management, Dr. Danjuma Lawan, outlined several security measures staff are expected to observe. He urged employees to cooperate with security personnel by allowing routine searches of vehicles at the institute’s gates and advised staff to leave the premises after official working hours unless they have pressing engagements within the institute.
During the interactive session, some staff members appealed to the management to consider opening an additional exit gate to facilitate swift evacuation in the event of an emergency.
The briefing was attended by members of the institute’s management team, staff, and officers of the Nigerian Police Force, who also sensitised participants on security awareness and personal safety measures.
