Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin has trained trade union officials of National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPPS) and Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) in different areas covering trade unionism and labour management relations.

The workshops which took place between Tuesday, 21 to Thursday 23 April, 2026 provided a platform for the union officials to reflect on their roles in building a peaceful and harmonious workplace towards enhancing sustainable development in their respective organisations in particular and the country in general.
In a welcome address during the opening ceremony of the workshops on Thursday, the Director-General of the Institute, Comr. Issa Aremu mni, lauded the federal government for initiating policies aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerian workers. He cited the reintroduction of payment of gratuity to retired workers by the present administration as a practical demonstration of workers-oriented governance, and charged the organised labour in the country to support the government in achieving its development plans.

Mr Aremu also enjoined employers to treat their workers with the dignity they deserve, noting that organisations cannot function properly without workers.
On labour best practices, the DG pointed out that unionism should not be about negotiations only, but should also encompass supporting management towards achieving organisational goals.
He further described dialogue and compromise as the bedrock of modern unionism and charged union officials to maintain good relationship with the management at their various organisation, noting that only through that would they be able to secure a better welfare for their members.
The themes of the workshops are: “The Role of Trade Union Leaders in Promoting Sustainable Workplace Harmony and Productivity for Organisational Growth” and “Enhancing Labour Management Relations Through Synergistic Collaboration” respectively.
